'WE SELL HOPE'
The Secret 7" is a charity initiative that combines art and music by inviting artists to design one-of-a-kind record sleeves for seven iconic tracks, which are then sold anonymously to raise funds for good causes.
In answering the Secret 7" call I chose 'We Sell Hope' by The Specials. The song conveys a sense that each lyric unfolds deeper meanings, alluding to a perfect light at the end of the tune. It encourages us to pursue life's journey despite its complexities and uncertainties.
The final artwork depicts charcoal swallows, to symbolize a harmonious and beautiful world, flying towards this guiding light. The monochromatic colors draw inspiration from the lyrics 'White is black, black is white' and 'Right is wrong, wrong is right', highlighting that our understanding of reality is nuanced. Ultimately, there is always a glimmer of hope.
